On June 27, 2026, deputies with the Warren County Sheriff's Office responded to the Dollar General located at 4763 Smithville Highway after receiving a report that a store employee had been struck by a vehicle.
During the investigation, deputies learned that a white male entered the store and used the restroom before leaving. Shortly afterward, another customer alerted the store manager, Brent Clarida, that the man had allegedly stolen a six-pack of Coca-Cola.
Mr. Clarida went outside in an attempt to stop the suspect and stood in front of the suspect's gold Jeep. Instead of stopping, the suspect accelerated the vehicle toward Mr. Clarida, striking him before fleeing the scene outbound on Smithville Highway.
