Over the weekend, La Vergne Police Department second- and third-shift officers responded to a residence regarding an active domestic assault involving a juvenile.
Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile with visible injuries and immediately began an investigation. Information gathered on scene indicated that the juvenile had allegedly been assaulted by his mother and that her actions had escalated to an attempt to take the juvenile’s life.
The juvenile was moved to safety; however, the situation remained active. The mother, who officers determined was intoxicated, barricaded herself alone inside the residence. Officers also learned that she had allegedly made statements threatening to set the residence on fire and harm herself.
Given the immediate safety concerns to the individual, responding officers, and surrounding neighbors, officers made the decision to force entry into the residence. She was taken into custody shortly after entry was made.
The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services responded to assist and ensure the continued safety and well-being of the juvenile.
The suspect was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse, Felony Reckless Endangerment, two counts of Aggravated Domestic Assault, and Resisting Arrest. Her bond was set at $950,000.
We are proud of the coordinated response of our officers, who were faced with an extremely serious and rapidly developing situation. Their priority remained protecting the juvenile, safely resolving the incident, and preventing further harm to those in the surrounding community.
