May is Older Americans Month, a time when we acknowledge the vast contributions older adults make to their families, communities and the nation. Justin Potter Library is partnering with the Alexandria Activity Center and the Smithville Senior Center in hosting the 46th Annual Older Americans Day Celebration with the theme, “Champion Your Heath”. We welcome all Older Americans to join us for the free event on Wednesday, May 13th in the theater area of the Mike Foster Multi-Purpose Center located at 712 S Congress Boulevard. The vendor displays will be located in the gym area from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM with drawings for door prizes and entertainment to follow.
This year’s entertainment will be provided by David & Linda Mitchell performing as Benjamin Franklin and his daughter, Sarah Franklin Bache, in Benjamin Franklin: The Man Who Tamed Lightning. This presentation is a historical drama with authentic, custom-made costumes and is a historically accurate
account of Dr. Franklin’s life from birth to death and his heavy influence in the founding of our great nation.
We want to thank the local businesses and organizations for providing the door prizes, items for the goody bags and sack lunches for the older Americans to enjoy. For more information, call Justin Potter Library at 615-597-4359.
