Playing in pickleball tournament builds fun and help for students
A high school football player was tearful when funds raised by school
resource officers allowed him to buy a suit to wear at team events, SRO
Sgt. Dustin Cox said.
“Now I have a suit I can wear on game day,” the player said with gratitude.
SRO Sam Trubee said SROs are sponsoring their first Pickleball
Tournament to raise funds for students like the football player whose
families are unable to buy school clothes and to fund emergency
situations for students.
The
tournament will be from 8 a.m. to noon for students and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
for adults, Jan. 17 at ‘Boro Pickleball at 605 River Rock Blvd. in
Murfreesboro.
“It’s going to be
competition of all ages,” Trubee said. “There will be multiple
opportunities to teach kids about giving back to the community. They’re
having fun and giving back to others at the same time.”
Trubee gave a shout out to Hometown Pickleball who donated $2,500 worth
of paddles to loan out to new players who don’t have paddles.
Players may register by using the QR code on the poster by Jan. 16. Cost is $50 per team of two players.
People or businesses interested in donating may contact SRO Trubee at 615-203-4862 or email him at strubee@rcsotn.org
