Bedford County Animal Control, TN has reported a new scam targeting Bedford County residents. Residents receive a phone call, which appears to come from BCAC or from Bedford County Sheriff's Office TN, saying that their pet has been injured and is at the BCAC shelter, and asking the resident to immediately send money for emergency veterinary care. The scammers are using “spoofing” technology to make false caller ID information display on the victim’s phone.
This is a scam. BCAC will not ask for payment of this type over the phone. If you have any questions about the legitimacy of a call you’ve received, call Bedford County Animal Control yourself at 931-685-1130 or Bedford County Sheriff’s Office at its non-emergency number, 931-684-3232. (In case of an emergency, always call 9-1-1.)
