Recently, an La Vergne Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Tom Hailey Boulevard and La Vergne Lane after observing it traveling 45 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. The driver failed to stop and continued through the residential area at speeds between approximately 6–12 MPH before eventually stopping near Shannon Lane.
As additional officers arrived, both occupants were safely taken into custody. During the subsequent investigation, officers located a Glock .40-caliber handgun with what appeared to be a machine gun conversion device, commonly referred to as a “switch” along with marijuana and several Percocet pills. Officers also developed evidence indicating attempts may have been made to tamper with or destroy evidence before contact was made.
Both occupants admitted to consuming alcohol, and one was transported to the hospital for medical clearance.
The driver faces multiple charges, including felony evading, DUI, tampering with evidence, drug offenses, and driving on a suspended license. The passenger faces charges including drug offenses, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
