A pickup truck struck and killed a 23-year-old woman Tuesday morning as she crossed Old Fort Parkway in a marked/signaled crosswalk, according to Murfreesboro police traffic investigators.
Officers arrived at the intersection of Old Fort Parkway and New Salem Highway at 11:23 a.m. and began first-aid. Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department firefighters and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded shortly after and took over medical care. The woman was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her deceased.
Investigators with the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) said an 18-year-old male was driving the pickup and attempted to turn left onto Old Fort from Golf Lane when the collision occurred.
“This is a tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim’s family, and the young man and his family,” said MPD Public Safety Information Director Larry Flowers. “Our FACT investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what happened.”
FACT investigators are reviewing surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.
