Rutherford: Mayor Carr Attends Barrett Firearms Groundbreaking

Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr joined Governor Bill Lee, U. S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, U.S. Representative Scott DesJarlais, State Senators Shane Reeves, Dawn White, Representative Robert Stevens, Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, other municipal officials, and Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. and NIOA Group, (Barrett’s Australian-owned parent company) senior management at a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday.

The state of the art facility is estimated at $76.4 million slated to add 183 new jobs throughout the project.
During Carr’s remarks at the event, he recounted how founder Ronnie Barrett had an idea that some people thought was impossible, but the vision became a mission. Through perseverance and hard work, he made his vision a reality.
Carr quoted the 2007 film Shooter and said, “ ‘Tennessee is the patron state of shooting stuff ’, so this is the most appropriate place where we would manufacture these firearms.”
He thanked the Barretts for starting the family owned business that now equips the military for battles globally.
Rutherford County District 6 Commissioner Jonathan Beverly attended the event as this will be an economic boon to his district.
All attendees could feel the vibration from the starter gunshot administered by Colonel Jason D. Bohannon before the blessing of the grounds by World Outreach Pastor Allen Jackson.
The facility will be located at 8808 Manchester Pike in Murfreesboro and is expected to be completed in early 2027.
