Bedford County Mayor Chad Graham signed a proclamation Monday, June 9, recognizing June as National Dairy Month in Bedford County.
Dairy Month chair Ansley O’Brien, a student at Cascade High School, and 4-H agent Emily Wooten provided glasses of milk to toast the occasion – the options were chocolate milk and a Minecraft-themed green milk (actually vanilla-flavored, and quite pleasant).
The proclamation recognizes that “[D]airy farmers have contributed to the development and well-being of Bedford County since the earliest formation of Bedford County,” and … “[T]he dairy industry is a major industry in Bedford County, and a significant contribution to the economy of Bedford County.”
This is the 86th celebration of June as National Dairy Month. “National Milk Month” was celebrated in 1937 and 1938 before the current name was adopted in 1939.
