Rutherford: Pop Up Computer Scam Alert

A Rutherford County man noticed a pop-up on his computer about a virus with instructions to click to get rid of the virus.
After he clicked on the pop-up, he received a call from someone falsely claiming to be Deputy Brandon Walls of the Sheriff’s Office, who does not work at the Sheriff’s Office.
The potential scammer told the man he had illegal porn on his computer and instructed him if he wanted to get rid of a federal arrest warrant, he must give the scammer his Social Security number.
His stepdaughter heard the conversation and told him to “hang up.” He hung up.
Fortunately, she stopped him from giving personal information to the scammer.
If you receive a similar call, follow the stepdaughter’s advice: “hang up.”
People can’t avoid a lawful arrest by giving their Social Security number.
Please don’t fall from this attempt to get your money.

Bedford/Shelbyville: Fly Arts Center Offering Free Art Classes To Bedford County Residents.

Beginning in September 2025, The Fly Arts Center will offer free art classes to Bedford County residents through their new program, Art For All. The Art For All program will feature 12 different classes through June 2026.

The main goal of Art For All is to provide accessible, high-quality arts education to Bedford County residents of all backgrounds and income levels. Through instruction in acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, mixed-media, collage and drawing, the program will aim to nurture creativity, foster lifelong learning and build a stronger, more connected community through the arts.

Access to quality arts education remains limited in rural communities, including Bedford County. For many residents, cost, transportation and lack of exposure prevent participation in formal art instruction. The lack of access not only deprives individuals of personal enrichment but also hinders community-wide appreciation of the arts. By offering free or low-cost classes that are inclusive and engaging, Art For All seeks to remove barriers and make art a vital shared experience in our community.

The Art for All program will offer monthly Saturday classes. Each session will be led by experienced, professional artists and will feature instruction in a range of mediums. Individualized instruction will be available to support learning and growth. In addition, participants will be invited to display their completed works in The Fly Art Gallery throughout the year, providing a platform for community celebration and recognition.

The Art For All program is made possible with funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission Rural Arts Project Support grant in the amount of $7,800. The grant proposal was written by The Fly's Education Coordinator Crystal O'Neal. All Art For Classes are held at The Fly Arts Center at 204 S. Main St, Shelbyville, TN 37160 in the newly renovated main level classroom, located across the hall from The Fly Art Gallery.

Rutherford/Murfreesboro: 33 Indicted After Fentanyl Overdose

A nearly two-year undercover investigation involving illegal drugs, gang activity, and firearms has resulted in the indictment of 33 people, following a 2023 overdose death of a Murfreesboro man.

Detectives from the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Special Investigations Section and agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation launched the joint investigation in November 2023 after an individual died from a fatal overdose. Detectives from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) also took part in the investigation.

In early 2024, investigators identified multiple suppliers connected to the overdose death. Officers executed residential search warrants in Murfreesboro, confiscating large quantities of fentanyl powder and pills.

As the investigation expanded, authorities uncovered a network of high-level fentanyl distributors operating out of Nashville and supplying Murfreesboro and surrounding communities. By late 2024, investigators identified known gang members within the drug trafficking operation.

In early 2025, investigators intercepted plans by members to commit first-degree murder. MPD investigators and MNPD’s intervention led to the arrest of three suspects, preventing a potential homicide. Further investigation revealed cartel involvement with individuals being arrested for attempting to deliver large quantities of fentanyl to areas in Middle Tennessee, including Murfreesboro, as well as the discovery of a fentanyl lab in Nashville and the seizure of additional narcotics.

Throughout the investigation, law enforcement seized:

•15 pounds of fentanyl (powder and pills)

•2.5 pounds of methamphetamine

•2.1 pounds of heroin

•2 pounds of cocaine

•61 firearms, including automatic weapons and guns linked to homicides

•Body armor and suppressors

•15 vehicles and three stolen vehicles

•$175,000 in illicit U.S. currency

•17 residential search warrants

•Evidence linked to two fatal overdoses

Authorities indicted 33 defendants on charges ranging from second-degree homicide to fentanyl distribution. The overall impact of these operations could potentially have delivered lethal doses of fentanyl to over three million individuals, according to detectives.

The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Special Investigations Section and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Middle Tennessee Drug-Related Death Task Force (HIDTA) led the operation.

The investigation was supported by:

•Metropolitan Nashville Police Department

•Drug Enforcement Administration – TDS
